I’ve talked about the littermaid in another article so let’s also talk about another popular litter box called
the “ScoopFree Self-Cleaning Litter Box.” This is why I love technology. This truly is a no touch
self automated litter box that requires very little on the cat owners behalf, so let’s take a look at it.
1. There is a rake inside that automatically pulls the solid wastes out of sight so that you cannot see it.
This is great for two reasons. The first being that you cat isn’t going to mistakenly step in it, and two, it makes
it a lot easier to clean when it is in one pile. You don’t have to touch a thing and the litter box will
automatically take care of this for you.
2. There is a disposable cat litter tray with Freshstep crystals to take care of smells and urine. The
benefit of having a disposable tray means you don’t have to wash it and replace it.
3. The whole system should last 1 cat up to a month without you having to do a thing. It keeps itself
pretty clean and maintenance free.
Basically what happens is that after your cat has used the litter box, the system detects your cat’s presence
and about 20 minutes later starts to rake the litter. If your cat happens to be inside the little box while the
system starts raking there shouldn’t be any problems because the rake itself has rounded edges and is pretty fool
proof.
ScoopFree Self-Cleaning Litter Box Less than $140
If you went on vacation and had to ask someone else to watch your cat, this is one of those items that would
save you worried about a soiled litter box and coming home to cat fecal matter scattered around the house. The
person watching your cat would only have to worry about food and water, which is the easiest thing to do for a
cat.
Depending on the size of your cat or if you have multiple cats, you may need to clean out the “poop” tray more
often like every week or so, which brings me to another point on cat litter. Using the disposable trays is awesome,
and I really do mean that, but it can be quite expensive. I’ve seen some people try to make their own or reusing
litter with this device but nothing that looks to be really successful. I think the more tinkering around you do
the more likely you are to waste litter.
There are a couple of problems I’d like to point out. The first is that some cats, especially kittens, are
likely to want to play with the ScoopFree litter box because it does make some noise. However, it is not as noisy
as some of the other brands of automatic litter trays. The second downside is the price. A lot of people can’t
justify the fact that a litter box is going to cost them over $100. But let me assure you that it will be worth it.
If you don’t want to clean up dirty manual litter boxes then I’m sure you would be willing to fork out over $200 if
it means you don’t have to get dirty, right?
There you have it! The ScoopFree Self-Cleaning Litter box is definitely something to consider
with an existing cat or a new one.
